Prostate Cancer – detection and treatment

Prostate Cancer is a very common cancer. We have extensive experience with prostate cancer including early detection, treatment and surgical remediation.

Prostate cancer forms within the Prostrate. The Prostate is responsible for producing seminal fluid that transports and nourishes sperm. Prostate cancer is a generally slow forming cancer which means early detection provides the greatest means to treat and cure. Unfortunately, there are some forms of Prostate Cancer that are faster growing and more aggressive in their spread. This spread is our greatest concern and why we encourage annual checkups. There are some types of prostate cancers that grow slowly and may not cause serious harm. We know your concerns and a personal consolation with one of our doctors will help us best chose a course of action or treatment that best suits your personal case. Remember, early detection is the best means of treating this very common condition in men. Additionally, early stages of prostate cancer show little to no symptoms.

Symptoms when they do present themselves include the following:

  • Unexpected weight loss
  • Blood in urine or semen
  • Problems urinating
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Bone pain
  • Weak urine stream

We use multiple methods to to determine prostate cancer, both currently active as well as per-cancerous detection. PSA tests as well as physical examinations are our first steps in the detection process. Prostate Biopsies may be needed to further identify the extent of the condition.
